Could you lead the delivery of our Skills For Life strategy?

We have recently launched our District Strategy to 2023, and we would like to take this opportunity to find a person to lead us in the delivery of this strategy.

You don't have to have been involved in Scouting previously, you may have relevant experience elsewhere in your life. What is crucial is that you have the passion, energy and time available to lead and support our District Team, together with Scout Groups which meet throughout Caerphilly County Borough. This is a really exciting time to be joining our adventure, as we are working towards our Skills for Life strategy, with particular emphasis on:

  • Growth
  • Inclusivity
  • Youth Shaped
  • Community Impact

What does the role entail?

The functions of the appointment are to:

  • the delivery of our strategy throughout Caerphilly County Borough;
  • as an ex-officio member of our District Executive Committee you would become a charity trustee;
  • work with the District Commissioner in producing a Delivery Plan for our strategy;
  • work with the District Commissioner in producing a District Development Plan;
  • build and manage a team of volunteers to support the delivery of the strategy (this team will include a lead for Growth, our ADC Inclusion (once recruited) and our Media Manager);
  • visit Scout Groups and their trustees throughout Caerphilly County Borough and advise and guide them on their role in the delivery of the strategy;
  • deputise for the District Commissioner where necessary;
  • carry out such other duties as may be delegated by the District Commissioner;
  • support the District Commissioner and District Team in the delivery of new Scouting provisions in areas of deprivation;
  • have a good working understanding of the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association

 

As a uniformed organisation, the successful candidate will proudly wear our uniform and will be expected to take the Scout promise and abide by the Scout law. The successful candidate will receive full management training in their role, culminating in the awarding of the Wood Badge. 

 

We are committed to providing flexible opportunities for volunteering, and so would encourage applications from anyone who feels that they may be able to volunteer in an alternative way, or where you may not be able to undertake all of the duties and responsibilities but could support the district with some of them. A specific role description will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The appointment will be made by our District Commissioner, and will require approval by our Appointments Advisory Committee before starting the role. A DBS check is one of the processes that will be undertaken, and references may be required.
